GENERAL COMMENT AND TIPS:
Wine without a kosher label may not be drunk, but whisky, vodka,
rum and fruit liqueurs (containing no grape product) are acceptable.
If you do not have kosher wine, you can make Kiddush and Havdala
on most other alcoholic drinks, including beer, but not on tea,
coffee or a soft drink. Any kitchen or food store would have spices
for Havdala.
Vegetable and fruit salads are generally all right but it's better to avoid
broccoli and ordinary lettuce, which are not easy to clean from
bugs. Carefully check any salad dressing. Whole fruit or vegetable
may be provided on request.
Most smoked salmon, sardines and tuna are OK but check the label
carefully first and if in doubt ask.
If you have no choice and there is no kosher bread to eat, you may
eat French bread that is made from flour and water only.
Ryvita and Jacob's crackers are OK but many places outside the UK
do not stock them, so you may take them with you.
It's advisable to take with you some Matza and as many sealed
kosher food items as you can carry to ease off your journey at
least until you locate an appropriate kosher food store.
In most countries, including the USA and Israel, fresh fruit and
vegetables and meat and fish are not allowed to be taken into the
country, only sealed snacks (e.g. crisps, biscuits etc.) and possibly
some tinned food. If in doubt check beforehand.
Most chocolates are OK, but you may not eat cheese unless it has a
kosher label or it appears on the list of kosher products (e.g.
Philadelphia).
Be particularly careful with biscuits, sweets and ice creams (except
Haagen Dazs, Ben & Jerry's etc.).
La Bruite kosher meals (pre-packed) contain a patented, nameless
food heater made of magnesium and iron. Web site:

Remember to pack your Shabbat candles, prayer book, Tzitzit,
Tefillin etc.
